My work revolves around three areas, art, design and interiors. When I begin a new art work, I typically start with a general idea, a shape, a composition, or a visual reference and explore how it might function in space, either as a free-standing sculpture or supported on a wall. The meaning isn’t always clear from the start, and I’ve learned to be okay with that. Sometimes a form or an image just pops into my head, and I feel the need to make it. I tend to let the process take it’s course, and stop when things feel balanced and finished. I don’t mind if my work is described as decorative. To me, not everything needs to carry a deep conceptual message, sometimes, it’s enough for the work to be visually engaging and pleasant to experience. Designing objects is a different process, it involves working closely with artisans, which I really enjoy. It also gives me a chance to learn more about different materials and techniques. Sometimes the starting point is practical, something I’d like to have myself and other times it begins with a story I’ve imagined the object being part of.
Interior decoration interests me because it involves creating environments that reflect individual identity that support everyday life. It brings together elements of nature, art, history, craftsmanship, and psychology, areas I love exploring.
